Joseph D. McBride, Esq.

Criminal Defense & Civil Litigation

Joseph D. McBride leads The McBride Law Firm PLLC, a New York litigation firm providing bespoke representation in criminal defense, civil litigation, and investigations. For each engagement, he draws from a pool of attorneys to assemble a team suited to the case’s legal issues, complexity, and jurisdiction.

A Team Built for Each Matter

The firm’s model begins with the requirements of the case. McBride selects and directs counsel according to the experience and capabilities the representation calls for. This allows the team to be structured around the client’s matter, including coordination across jurisdictions where necessary.

Professional Background

McBride worked in the Legal Aid Society’s Manhattan Criminal Defense Practice before entering private practice. His earlier legal experience included the Innocence Project. His work in criminal defense informs the firm’s approach to allegations, evidence, and courtroom advocacy.

Selected Experience

His federal criminal representation has included more than 25 January 6 defendants, including in high-profile matters. His civil practice has included representation of Andrew and Tristan Tate in the Palm Beach defamation action filed in 2023. He has also acted as counsel and spokesperson in nationally reported cross-border matters.

These engagements involve different courts, legal standards, and client interests. They illustrate the range of the practice; the underlying records and dated descriptions appear in Representative Work.

Congressional Representation

McBride has represented Alex Bruesewitz and other clients before the House Select Committee investigating January 6. His congressional work has also developed professional relationships on Capitol Hill, extending the firm’s experience beyond court proceedings to government inquiries.

His custody and detention work has involved jails and prisons in New York, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Florida, including matters concerning the Federal Bureau of Prisons, wardens, and conditions of confinement.

McBride represents clients in federal and New York criminal matters and in substantial civil disputes.
